Nirjhar is a PhD candidate in Biological Sciences at the University of Notre Dame and a visiting research affiliate in the Jha Lab. His research integrates genomics, transcriptomics, genome-wide association studies, and machine learning to investigate the polygenic architecture and pleiotropic effects underlying antimalarial drug resistance in Plasmodium falciparum. During his MS in Biotechnology at Jawaharlal Nehru University, he conducted a GWAS of renal function biomarkers, serum creatinine and urea, in a cohort of more than 5,000 Indian participants. At the Jha Lab, he is particularly interested in developing interpretable computational models for analyzing structural variation, linking genomic sequence to function, and integrating multimodal biological data. He also holds an MS in Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Notre Dame. In his free time, he enjoys working out, swimming, and reading about history.
